Anxiety runs rampant throughout our generation; it does not discriminate amongst the demographics. To defeat anxiety, you must be able to define it and examine yourself objectively. All the time you will read infographics about studies that show how to stop anxiety, with no definite conclusion: Today, I will give you easy implementable tricks that you can practice today, to slowly eliminate anxiety forever.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7
To be able to defeat anxiety, you must be able to personally define it. Why do I feel this way in this situation? Is it a lack of confidence? Past trauma?
What is the root of this weed?
A lot of who we are today stems from the past. Childhood, Memories, and experiences, shape us in the present for the better and for the worse. For example, one may have been indoctrinated to the system, which allows for anxiety to run rampant during potential firings, risk taking, and lack of a material. Another example may be being taught to follow, so when it is time to lead, one panics.
Our past shapes our present, which then gives birth to worrying about the future.
Foundationally, anxiety stems from worrying about the future. Like a hypochondriac thinking of all the worst situations before an appointment. It is human nature to want to know and pattern recognize the unknowable; this thought is how plans and strategies are made, by a potential predicting of such.
The only problem is we do not know the future, and can never.
I used to not even be able to see or hear the word “anxiety” without getting immediate nerves. It’s like the word itself is a portal into negativity. Here are some thoughts and tricks that I did to majorly overcome this.
Anytime you feel anxiety running rampant about a future that you do not know, take deep breaths and think to yourself, “I do not know the future, but whatever may come, I can defeat.” This can relay to the bible verse about how God will not put you through something that you cannot conquer. This Stoic mindset was the first step of me eliminating my anxiety, by allowing myself the humility of realizing that I cannot control everything, and to just let go.
2. Get Confident
Harder said than done, becoming confident can stem through learning of the mind and human nature, which then allows you to communicate efficiently. Think of confidence as your body, and think about your arms, legs, fingers, and head that make your body complete.
Allow your mouth to be communicative, allow your hands to humbly serve, allow your arms to praise the God who made you bold, allow your legs to effortlessly guide you where you need to go, and allow your heart to be virtuous.
I could honestly write another blog post about how to become confident, but I will try to sum it up quickly. Confidence stems from a belief in something bigger than you, like how the “Real Steel” boxers were ultimately controlled by the user. Allow for yourself to understand that you yourself cannot do all things, but the works of the Lord and wisdom allows for a perfect storm of confidence. This sort of “higher-power” thought was used by Christians, Stoics, and Gnostics of antiquity and new.
3. Visualize and Affirm
I talk all the time about the power of the mind, and the symbol of God being made in you. However, when you hear me or other speakers talk about this subject, you may not know how to actually apply it.
This is what you can do today.
When you lay down at night, I want you to imagine that you are in your dream house, with your dream car, and your dream wife. I want you to force the emotions that you would feel if you had it in the present. Now, when you go through this journey, in your mind during the visualization I want you to say, “I am (blank).”
Not “I will be” rather “I am.”
The subconscious cannot depict reality from imagination, so doing this will allow your body to truly live out that you have all your wishes. Do not turn them into needs, rather wants, and God is all you need. Refer back to a time where you had a dream and something happened in such dream that madr your real body react and wake up.
It is the same concept, as if your body believes in the present it is in this dream house and living in the feeling, then your energy will reciprocate. You will become happier, more confident, and it will open doors that will allow your imaginative state to become reality.
4. Pray Constantly
Give all of your negativity to God, as he is perfect. In times of stress and anxiety, reach a mental state of tranquility by submitting yourself to the all-good Lord. When you can align yourself to the perfect being of God, creating a relationship where you truly know he is there for you, you will legitimately become unstoppable. You will have nothing left to fear, as in the end God wins. And if God wins, and you are one of his, then you win.
5. You have one life
Do not fear death, think of the crazy circumstances that got you here in the first place. Make something of your life, as the probability of you being born in the first place is in the billions. Do not allow for anxiety and fear to indoctrinate you as a follower, as God is the king of the underdogs. Read constantly, take the advice from the wise, hang around positive people, talk slower, control the controllables, and allow yourself to be second to God and those you serve.
This will take time, effort, and consistency, but it can be done. If I can do it then you can do it. All of these “muscles” must be trained every day, as if you stop for long periods of time you will have to rebuild it. You will stop caring about what other people think, you will learn from the past and stay present; in the “I am” state.
The more present you stay, the more time will slow down. Time only moves as fast as you look forward to it moving. The more you think about the future, the more you destroy yourself.
Anxiety can only be felt in the present feeling of the future.
Proving I was correct ironically about your body not knowing the difference between imagination and reality, anxiety is a term, because your body thinks that you are in the future due to the thinking of it. Which then ultimately creates the feeling of stress and nervousness.
Is this not ironic?
But if you turn the feeling of anxiety positively, that you are the man and can do anything through Christ and self-belief, then you will never fear it, or feel it, again.
Who better than you?
