Essay of Patience

“Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.”

– Proverbs 16:32

How do we become patient?

Stoicism: Do not worry about the future.

You may think, “Isn’t this more anxiety related than being patient?”

Yes and no.

Although this can help with anxiety, think about what anxiety is. Anxiety is the fear of the future, involving the thought process of “What is going to happen?” or “Can this thing not just happen already?” Becoming patient with the future, will allow you to lose all anxiety.

There are two men: One worries about his taxes being due and the other plans out how to pay his taxes. The one who worries has no plan, and the same result he feared happens anyway. The other does not fear, has a plan, and is patient with his timing and feelings. Although the same result happens for both as the taxes are barely paid, one had added stress which effected his work, kids, and wife. the other is still patient with his plan to defeat the imperil future, with his work, kids, and wife not dragged down with him.

Worrying accomplishes nothing; patience accomplishes plans.

It is impossible to be patient if there is nothing to look forward to in the future. That is why patience and anxiety go hand-and-hand. You can either choose to plan for the future, by writing out all the results that can happen and stay patient. Or you can worry about the future which could end up in your favor anyway.

Christianity: Faith

“How can we have faith through the unseeable future?”

Although we may think we have an idea of the future with Revelations and prophecy, even Jesus himself doesn’t know when he will return. Sometimes the whole point of staying patient with an ongoing want or need is to show faith in Gid’s plan for you. King David knew that he would rule Israel but had to run away from persecution for years on end. The Israelites had to wait a generation in the wilderness to be brought to the promised land. Jesus had to wait on the cross to fulfil his goal, even though he could have removed himself.

Being patient is impossible but symbolizes faith.

Christian Stoicism: Combine both

Having faith in God’s plan rids of anxiety and worry, while understanding that you cannot change or know what the future holds. There is no point to worry, which loses faith in God, family, and yourself. Usually over half of what you worry about ends up better than you think.

Worrying in itself is worse than the inevitable outcome.
